Example of Brian's Exhaustion

So last night, Brian was up until 4:30 and we woke up at 7:30 to get to school. Brian dropped me off around 9 for my class and then drove the car over to the Arch. building to unload the stuff he was working on last night. There is an loading/unloading zone behind their building, where you can park for 30 minutes max with your flashers on. So he turned them on and started taking stuff inside.

Because of his exhaustion, he forgot the car was parked out there, and just got down to work. He worked all day long, and when I came over after class at 5 I helped him with a few things, and then we decided to go get something to eat. I asked him where he parked and he suddenly groaned and hurried outside. There was our car, the flashers no longer blinking. He got in and attempted to start the car. Not a sound. It was completely dead.

So we went inside and tried to find someone who had jumper cables. One of the other student did and said he wasn't parked too far away. So he rode off on his skateboard to go get them and his car. A little while later, he came back, on his skateboard. He came up to us and told us that he had forgotten to turn off his lights last night when he parked there, and so his battery was dead too. What irony! But he did bring the cables.

Next we tried to find someone to help us jump the car. The first person that attempted to help, somehow ended up having her car die in the middle of charging ours. Hers eventually started up again, but we couldn't figure out why that happened. So we had someone else help and this time, it worked! It only took an hour, but we now have a working car again, and we were able to go get food, which is very important to my happiness. I'm a grumpy person when I'm hungry. Hungry and tired aren't a good mix either.

The redeeming part of this whole story though, is that our car sat there all day long, no flashers on, and we did not get one ticket. And the one time we were out there waiting for our friend to come back with the cables, the parking people even stopped by to check the other cars that were there. But because we were standing by our car, they didn't give us a ticket then either. I think that maybe it was a little break (blessing) we caught because of the exhausted state that Brian's in and that the increased stress may have just given him a mental breakdown. :)
